Keesler Air Force Base is located within the city limits of Biloxi, Mississippi. The base occupies 2,386 acres along the beachfront of the Gulf of Mexico and has a population of over 11,000 active duty personnel, 4,000 reservists, 6,000 dependents and 2,200 civilian employees.
Keesler AFB is home to the Air Force Technical Training Center which offers over 80 technical training courses for enlisted active duty Airmen. These courses are divided between 12 technical schools including aircraft maintenance, cyber systems operations, electrical power production and medical laboratory sciences.
The base is also home to the 81st Training Wing which provides medical and healthcare training for Air Force personnel. The base is located in Wichita Falls, Texas, which is about two hours north of Fort Worth. It was originally built in 1941 as an Army Air Corps training facility and later became a fighter pilot training base during World War II. The base was eventually transferred to the Air Force in 1947 and has since been used for a variety of purposes, including pilot training, intelligence gathering, and aircraft maintenance.
